Center For Advanced Technological Studies (CATE Center)*
Irmo, South Carolina
District 5 constructed the CATE Center to facilitate the District’s transition from traditional vocational programs to an advanced hands-on technological studies facility. Chris Farr served as project manager for the duration of the Center’s construction.
The project included specialty construction for hands-on curriculum and trade-skill learning. These interactive spaces included a teaching lab, commercial kitchen, automotive labs, welding lab, health science labs, sound studio, green screen video lab and specialized equipment for veterinary training.
While at Cumming, Farr’s role on the project included ongoing project management, schedule control and cost management. He worked closely with the owner and curriculum consultants to procure and install the equipment and furnishing for labs and specialty spaces. He also conducted cost benefit assessments of a proposed geothermal HVAC system.
The project required a very narrow time frame for completion and was delivered successfully to the owner on time.
*This is not an LCK project. It was individual project experience gained by Chris Farr while Project Manager at CUMMING.
